This is my daughter over a decade ago. Yes, she was my first grade student! This was a time I will always treasure. Not many moms get to experience this and I was blessed to have been able to do so.
Gabrielle sketched this charcoal owl scene and gave it to me in the summer of 2013. It was the beginning of the OWL theme that took over my classroom! BTW: My students thought it was a HOOT!
I will have to post all of the cute little owls they gave me throughout the school year! At the end of the school year in May 2017, I tried to get my students to vote on changing our OWL theme to TROLLS, but they voted it down! LOTS OF LAUGHS! I guess I will be using an owl theme for a few more years.

Pictured with my forever friend and partner teacher, Lanette. We both began our teaching career together at the same school as first grade teachers back in the eighties. Years later, we are back together again teaching first grade just at a different elementary school.

Read Across America 2017 was another success. Pictured with me are my husband, John Lenahan, and my spring student teacher, Ms. Plummer. My firsties were beyond excited that their teacher’s husband came to class and read a Dr. Seuss story!
Many thanks to the Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce for donating books to all kindergarten and first grade classrooms and to the members for donating their time visiting and reading to our beginning readers.
